Allgemeines Treuunternehmen (ATU) is one of Liechtenstein’s first and most traditional trust companies. Its origin is linked to Guido Feger (1893–1976), one of the pioneers of the Liechtenstein financial centre. In 1929, Guido Feger, who was later honoured with the title of Commercial Counsellor, established the «Treu-Bureau, Treuhandinstitut» in Vaduz, which later, in 1936, was renamed into «Allgemeines Treuunternehmen».1956, Guido Feger founded the Verwaltungs- and Privat-Bank Aktiengesellschaft (VP Bank) which is particularly active in private banking.

At the beginning of the 1980s, Mercotrust Aktiengesellschaft was formed. It specialises in the setup and management of national and international trusts.

Today ATU is present in various important financial and business centres. It owns subsidiaries in selected locations like in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (Joint Venture with the Verwaltungs- and Privat-Bank Aktiengesellschaft), in Zurich, Switzerland, in Panama City, Panama and in Montevideo, Uruguay. In Asia, ATU is represented by an office in Shanghai, China.
